Poker Review Of 2009
Hello and welcome to the Naked Poker News review of 2009. I’m Gemma Heeley.
In a year that’s seen Barack Obama establish himself as U.S President, we’ve also discovered that he’s a bit of a poker shark.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner joins an illustrious list of former U.S Presidents who enjoy the sport, with the likes of Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Nixon and even legendary British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, all regularly hosting poker nights when in office.
In online poker, the world record for the number of hands played in one day was smashed twice this year.
First to break the record was Russian sensation ‘Innerpsy’, who managed to play forty thousand and eighty eight hands in just twenty four hours.
Innerpsy’s new record was then smashed again just one week later by Chicago Joey, who played an astonishing fifty thousand four hundred and seventy hands in a single day.
Staying with online poker, internet phenomenon ‘Eye Silder One’ has gone from hero to zero in a matter of weeks.
The player, whose identity still remains a mystery, shot to fame when he took millions of dollars from Tom ‘Durr’ Dwan.
Eye Silder then accumulated a further few million from a number of the biggest names in online poker before flopping against Brian Hastings in a marathon session, which saw Eye Silder lose four point two million dollars.
The figure is thought to be the biggest single-session win in poker history and Eye Silder’s loss has left his fans wondering if their hero will ever return to the circuit.
In international poker news, Cypriote Police showed no mercy when they ram-raided the house of an elderly woman who was hosting a poker night.
Forty two women aged between seventy five and ninety five were arrested at the private home game on account of illegal gambling.
Local residents alerted the police to the illegal activity after complaining about the amount of noise that the women were making. Police then confiscated one hundred euros in betting money, five hundred and thirty playing cards and five hundred and forty six playing chips.
And finally, it seems that Celebrity poker events aren’t just reserved for the ugly ones.
The likes of Mark Williams, Steve Davis and Boris Becker can be seen regularly attending celebrity events, but now Hollywood heart-throb Zac Efron has told fans that he’ll be playing with the pros next year, too.
Movie director, Richard Linklater, has warned poker pros not to be fooled by his clean cut image as Efron is a poker shark who will take your money for fun.
Well that’s it from Poker News. Join me again in January for all the latest developments in the world of poker. I hope you have a very merry Christmas.
